STEM Electives

Warilla High School offers the integration of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) as a Year 8 elective, and is looking to continue this into Year 9 and 10.

Students who study electives in each of these curriculum areas are engaging in coding "Artbots" to create amazing pieces of art. This Partnership with Polygon Door, has enabled a wide range of students to learn new skills and enter the Future-Focussed learning world.

UOW STEM Roadshow

Students are also offered the opportunity to engage in STEM activities via the UOW STEM Roadshow that visits annually. The following activities are offered as a part of the Roadshow:

  • 3D Printing
  • Driving an open-wheeler racer driving simulator
  • Drone flying
  • The making and testing of bottle rockets
  • Timber beam building and testing
  • Water storage tank building and testing
  • Extraction of the genome of strawberries
  • Radioactive isotope half-life

STEM Inter-school Challenge Days

Warilla HS students engage in "friendly" STEM challenge days with a range of other local schools. These pictures are from the 2017 STEM Challenge Day held at Illawarra Sports High School, where Moss Vale, Warilla HS and Illawarra Sports HS worked collaboratively and competitively through a range of challenges.
